Opinions on the clock change

Now that we have had time to adjust to standard time I have heard and read a lot of opinions on whether or not people like it when the clocks change.

There are of course only so many hours of daylight and that number is going down these days. When we go to Daylight Saving Time in the spring we shift an hour of daylight into the evening.
Thus at this time of year, the clock change takes an hour from the evening and puts it back to the morning (we are now on standard time).

To find out what people think, I have put a poll on the UW weather station blog asking whether people would rather have that extra hour in the evening or the morning or are just indifferent.

As well as voting you can leave a reply to this post giving your reasons.

Doesn't matter to me, light/night or light/morning. Just stop changing it, EST is so short now why bother screwing with everyone's internal clock.

I'd like to have Daylight Saving Time all year long - I like that extra hour of daylight in the summer. In the winter, it really doesn't matter. I think it's silly and annoying to change it twice a year.

I vote we get rid of the time change. I don't care if we go with standard time or daylight savings time, so long as we stop changing it. I don't know of anyone who actually *likes* the time change. I think most people would be glad to be rid of it, regardless of the actual time we ended up with.

I don't really get up that early, so I'd prefer to be on DST all year. However, I don't really mind changing the clocks (and I got two changes this year by travelling!). What I do mind is changing the changes, because that breaks all sorts of systems.

I usually get to my office around 7 AM, so I won't benefit from the extra daylight in the morning anyway. I too hope that it can be DST all year long for that one extra hour in the evening, which sometimes, might be crucial for my mood...

One good reason for changing to standard time is so that kids don't have to go to school in the dark

I'm for permanent DST. I'm a student from Saskatchewan and we use permanent DST back home, and it works perfectly. Switching the clocks is pointless and an extra hour in the evening would be far more useful.

I agree with the "stop changing it" sentiment. Pick (pref:DST) and stick!

Why don't we split the difference, and in the spring move the clocks forward half an hour and be done with it.

Just wanted to save the results of the poll:

I would rather have an extra hour of daylight after work 93(61%)

I like the extra hour of daylight in the morning 31(20%)

I don't really care either way 28(18%)
