Last cold day for a while?

There is definitely a change coming, after Friday where the low dipped to -23.4°C in the morning, it looks like the temperature is going to slowly going to go up and up. It might not go down again till sometime on Sunday (maybe even Sunday evening).

And it's not just the short term that sees higher temperatures, with some forecasted highs of 6 in middle of next week.

After that, the medium range forecasts have it staying either at or a bit above average into mid-March. Thus I'll be bold and predict that today is going to be the coldest day we see until the fall.

Thank the sweet baby jebus. I'm really sick of this ridiculous cold. So, since the warm snap at New Years, how many days of sub-average temps have there been?

Yes it got really cold this morning, -17.6 degrees C. outside my bedroom in Kitchener. But there was no wind. I've noticed about the last 2 or 3 times this winter when the temperature has dipped to about -25 degrees C. at the U of W weather station, that there has been no wind. So Frank, although you optimistically point out that the temperatures will be going up and up this week, I think you'll also find the wind speeds will be going up too, like to about 25 to 35 KM/H. Ha-Ha-Ha. So I think when the wind chill factor is considered, it won't be much warmer, in my opinion. I've usually ignored the wind chill factor. This winter, I'm trying something new. I'm trying to avoid going out on windy days, and wait to go out on days with little to no wind. I went for a walk when it was -5 degrees C. with no wind, and it was not bad.

It's funny. I heard a lot of people complaining today. Seems like the threshold for our tolerance had been reached.

Good timing for this development!

Hopefully the above seasonal March forecast is true. Since today's low is like -23.4 Celsius, then I'll even be bolder to say that we won't see colder temperature than that until at least December this year :D

Ugh. I would much rather it stay below 0˚C consistently, below average or not, than for it to start going above and below freezing daily. This is going to be the part of the season that I loathe. The cold I can handle--I can put on as many layers as I need to handle it. As for the freeze/thaw cycles, you can't really wear the same slush pants day after day, after day, after.....

The freeze/thaw cycle is important to maple syrup. Perhaps also to other things? No matter, Wiarton Willy assures us that it is all but over.
