UW weather station application for Mac OS

I've had this for a while but I didn't want it to get lost in all the end of year summaries.

Weather station fan Nolan Waite wrote a little application for the Mac operating system that should put the latest data from the station on the menu bar automatically.

I don't have the means to test out the application, but I encourage anybody who does to please leave feedback on the blog.

But note that the UW weather station is not responsible for the content or the operation of this application.

Contact information for Nolan is contained in the Readme file.

You can download the latest version of the application here:

UW_Weather_Mac_OS

Current version is 1.2.4, available March 20, 2009

I really like this application! I recently added the UW Weather gadget to my iGoogle page. I like it because it has the full weather details.
But having the temperature in the menu bar at all times is very convenient! It's also nice to be able to see the amount of precipitation from the past hour/24hrs by just clicking on the the temperature icon. Thank you Nolan!

Great little feature. Thanks for sharing!

A neat application. I think I'll be keeping it.

A suggestion though, it'd be nice to be able to choose the quantity displayed, for instance windchill rather than straight temperature. Also, having a more complete summary when clicked, rather than just precip.

Thanks for making this.

It's on the improvement list. I'll leave a note when it's done!

Nice little application! Thanks Nolan so much for writing it.

Andrew's suggestion of an option to show windchill/humidex instead of measured temperature has been implemented. I've sent the new version to Frank, but if you'd like it right away, it can be had at http://uw-weather.nwaite.com.

I've noticed that the temperature sometimes doesn't automatically update so I often have to manually update it. Is there any way to get it to always automatically update at the 15 min intervals?

I installed it for both my roommates (one MBP and one MB both running OS 10.5.6), and it works like a charm and they both enjoy it. For some odd reason, it seems to not work on my own laptop. It loads, and just says "UW", and doesn't update automatically or manually. Any ideas as to why it may be happening? It's not a firewall type issue either, since I allowed access for it. It's a MBP running OS 10.5.6. Thanks.

I love the application, although I would really like to see the windspeed average, gust and lull for the time interval, rather than windchill (I'm a wind fanatic!).

Anyone got it working on 10.6.x ?
I have the same issue that I only see the UW letters.

Hey guys,

Just put together a new version that's Snow Leopard (10.6) only. If you're running Snow Leopard and having issues, check it out.

@Nolan Waite.. why don't you develop an app for the real computer (pc) or ubuntu?
I mean, why mac?...
So disappointing, anyway you are doing a good job. Keep it up.

I don't have Snow Leopard yet, running 10.5.8.

The latest version won't run on 10.5.8. :(

Nolan Waite said...

@Anonymous: Sorry, but I've no plans to fix up the pre-Snow Leopard version. I'm on Snow Leopard myself and have used SL-specific features in the latest version.

That's alright Nolan. I'm using the old 1.2.4 version right now and it seems to work great.

Thank you for making this program! I'll be back for the new one once I make the leap to Snow Leopard.

Just discovered this and love it. Nice job Nolan and good choice on the OS to write an app for.
